The prosecutor’s office accused the human rights center “Memorial” of participating “in all protest movements”, “supporting all protests” and “forming a negative perception of the Russian courts”. About it stated a prosecutor at a court hearing on a claim for the liquidation of an organization.
According to the prosecutor, Memorial’s participation in the protests is aimed at “destabilizing” the situation in the country, and the lists of political prisoners maintained by the organization “are aimed at creating a negative perception of the Russian judicial system”. According to the prosecution, Memorial “demonstrates a steady disregard for the Constitution of the Russian Federation and laws, violates the rights of citizens and the right to access information.” The prosecutor also said that the human rights center allegedly carries out “non-transparent” financial activities, it is funded by foreign sources, and the organization’s reports do not contain complete information on income and expenses.
Also, Memorial is accused of partnering with the OVD-info human rights project, which, according to the prosecution, is involved in justifying extremism.
Recall, on the eve of the Supreme Court satisfied the demand of the Prosecutor General’s Office to liquidate the human rights society “International Memorial”. During the meeting, the prosecutor said that the organization “distorts the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War” and creates “a false image of the Soviet Union as a terrorist state.”
The decision to liquidate the “International Memorial” condemned the authorities of the United States and the European Union.
