Fatezhsky District Court of the Kursk Region pronounced a verdict on anesthesiologist-resuscitator Andrei Suragin, reported on the court website. He was found guilty of the murder of a nurse practicing in the “red zone” of the hospital. Suragin strangled her after a nurse responded with a slap in the face to his harassment.
Suragin will spend 12 years behind bars. He will serve his sentence in a maximum security penal colony. Also, 4 million rubles were collected from the doctor in favor of the parents of the murdered woman, although the plaintiffs themselves asked for 10 million rubles.
Irina Zhuk, a 21-year-old student of Kursk Medical University, had an internship at the Fatezh Central District Hospital, and 36-year-old Suragin was one of its leaders, and it depended on him what qualification a nurse would receive.
On the evening of March 26, Suragin and a colleague invited Zhuk, who had the last shift, to drink alcohol on duty. According to another nurse called by Zhuk, the married Suragin began to pester the intern. Around midnight, Zhuk suggested that Suragin return to his duties and change colleagues in the “red zone” of the hospital for patients with coronavirus. At the elevators, the doctor put his hand on the nurse’s shoulder, and she slapped him across the face with her palm.
Suragin pressed the Beetle to the wall. The nurse tried to pull free and bit his forearm. Then the doctor hit her several times in the face, knocked her to the floor, pressed her with his knee and strangled her. Then Suragin went to the rest room and hit the nurse, who asked why he was covered in blood. The resuscitator was twisted by the resident, writes Mediazona.
Father of the deceased Konstantin Zhuk told in the talk show “Live” that his daughter was not the only one who was molested by Suragin. “How was such a person allowed to work? What the HR department was doing, I don’t understand. As I am told, he also harassed the patients. They are simply afraid, people are afraid to talk there, ”Zhuk said.
