The Sudanese authorities are preparing to begin the procedure for ratifying an agreement with Russia on the creation of a logistics center for the Russian Navy in the country. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following talks with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mariyam al-Mahdi, transfers TASS.

According to Mariam al-Mahdi, during a recent visit to Russia, Sudanese Defense Minister Yasin Ibrahim Yasin “clarified this issue” at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu.

“We discussed this issue. We informed that the ratification process has begun in Russia. Now the parliament is on vacation, therefore, upon their completion, the State Duma will determine the timetable for the consideration of this document. Apparently, this will be the new composition of the State Duma. Madam Minister said that Sudan is also preparing to start the ratification process. And it will be carried out in accordance with the procedures that exist for this purpose in the Sudanese parliament, ”Lavrov said.

Mariam al-Mahdi also noted that the Military Council of the Sudan signed this agreement back in 2019, but it has not yet been ratified.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma for ratification an agreement between Russia and Sudan on the creation of a logistics center for the Russian Navy. This agreement became known in November 2020.

According to the document, the maximum number of personnel at the naval point, which will be carried out by the Russian side, will not exceed three hundred people. No more than four Russian ships will be able to stay there at the same time.
