Three former operatives of the 2nd department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Orekhovo-Zuev were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment for beating a native of Dagestan, who later died. The victim of police violence was the father of the athlete Magomed Yunusilau, who twice became the champion of Russia in mixed martial arts (MMA) among amateurs, transfers Interfax.
Former policemen Oleg Shishkanov, Pavel Popov and Dmitry Blinov were sentenced to 7, 8 and 9 years in prison, respectively, with serving in a strict regime colony. The court also recovered from the convicts compensation for moral damage in the amount of 600 thousand rubles, informs Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Moscow Region.
As follows from the case materials, on the evening of April 11, 2019, operatives in civilian clothes witnessed the conflict on Gagarin Street in Orekhovo-Zuevo. The police decided to detain one of those present, who used foul language and hit his opponent on the head. The security forces beat the violator of the order with their hands and feet, including on the head. After that, they dragged the beaten one to the entrance of the house and fled.
A week later, 46-year-old victim Sulli Yunusilau died in hospital, where he was taken with a head injury.
A criminal case was opened against the police under Part 4 of Art. 111 (deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim by negligence), clauses “a”, “c”, part 3 of Art. 286 (abuse of office) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The lawyer of one of the convicts, Natalya Eliseeva, intends to appeal the verdict. “I will file a complaint against the verdict of my client Oleg Shishkanov. From our point of view, there are no grounds for bringing him to criminal liability under the article on grievous bodily harm that resulted in the death of a person. Under the article on abuse of power, Shishkanov pleaded guilty, but the court convicted him on both counts, ”she said.
How told A TASS source familiar with the situation, the defenders of the rest of the convicts will also file complaints.
