The Russian Federation is actively increasing the supply of vaccines to other countries. First of all, we are talking about drugs for coronavirus, which the population of the country is in dire need of.
In June-August 2021, Russia sold vaccines to foreign partners in value and real terms more than in the previous five months. According to the classification code TN VED 3002200009 (“other vaccines for humans”), 203.6 tons of vaccines worth about $ 410 million were exported this summer, follows from the data of the Federal Customs Service, which leads RBC. In January-May, it was only 159 tons for $ 303.6 million. In just eight months, Russia exported 362.5 tons of vaccines worth $ 713.7 million.
Although the FCS does not specify how export volumes are distributed by type of vaccine, TN VED 3002200009 is the main code for these substances. This includes tick-borne encephalitis vaccines, combined diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccines, and hepatitis A. A hepatitis B and rubella vaccines are exported separately.
The export of vaccines for the prevention of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 also goes under the TN VED code 3002200009, the Ministry of Industry and Trade specified earlier. They emphasized that the sharp increase in exports this year is due precisely to the supply of vaccines against coronavirus.
Sales of such vaccines are skyrocketing amid record deaths from COVID-19. On October 16, the headquarters reported that over the past 24 hours, 1,002 residents of Russia have died from the coronavirus. In total, 222 315 people died in the country during the pandemic.
47.5 million people were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation. In the headquarters, the level of herd immunity in the country is estimated at only 45%.
Note that this year Russia has already sold abroad almost four times more vaccines in value terms than in the previous three years in total. From 2018 to 2020, Russia exported 468.3 tons of medical products worth $ 182.1 million.
Russian vaccines are supplied, in particular, to Argentina, Kazakhstan, India, the United Arab Emirates and Mexico. They account for more than 60% of all deliveries in monetary terms, it follows from customs statistics. All countries that have increased their purchases of Russian vaccines in 2021 have previously signed contracts for the supply of Sputnik V, which has already been approved in 70 countries.
In June 2021, the export of the Sputnik V vaccine may increase significantly, said Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. It is this structure that promotes the vaccine in foreign markets.
“As the sites fully satisfy the domestic demand, they can also supply the vaccine absolutely without prejudice to the domestic demand for foreign markets,” Dmitriev said.
