The European Medicines Agency recommends allowing children over 12 years of age to be vaccinated against COVID-19 with a drug created by the American pharmaceutical company Moderna. About it informs RIA Novosti.
“After evaluating the findings, the EMA may recommend Moderna vaccine for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years. The use of the vaccine in children from 12 years old will be the same as in other age categories: the vaccine is injected in two doses into the shoulder muscle at intervals of four weeks, ”the ministry said in a statement.
In June, WHO approved the vaccination of 12-year-olds with a drug created by bioengineering company BioNTech and US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.
March 24, 2021 Moderna announced on testing the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine on children aged six months to 12 years. Then experts evaluated the “safety, tolerance, reactogenicity and efficacy of two doses of the mRNA-1273 vaccine”, which were administered with a difference of 28 days.
In total, four vaccines are approved for use in the EU: Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. Several other drugs are under consideration by the regulator, including the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.
