The court of the Leninsky district of Grodno sentenced narcologist Alexander Telego to four years in prison because of comments on social networks. About it writes human rights center “Vesna”.
According to human rights activists, the doctor worked in Norilsk, and came home during his vacation in April 2021. On May 3, he was detained in Borisov and placed in custody in Grodno. A criminal case was initiated against him under Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (insulting a representative of the authorities).
According to Viasna, Telego published 32 comments about government officials, including commander of the Minsk OMON Dmitry Balaba, assistant prosecutor of the Frunzensky district of Minsk Alina Kasyanchik, judge of the court of the Frunzensky district of Minsk Maria Erokhina and Deputy Prosecutor General Aleksey Stuk.
Telego himself stated in court that during the protests in August 2020, he was one of the volunteers who were on duty near the detention center on Akrestsina, so he saw with his own eyes the consequences of bullying civilians. The doctor added that because of what he saw, he was overwhelmed with emotions, so he left a lot of comments about officials on social networks.
It also became known at the trial that one of the victims in the case beat Telego during his arrest in the presence of his elderly parents.
