The first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, is in the capital of the country, Nur-Sultan, writes The Guardian, citing sources.
According to a former official with “good connections” in the country, Nazarbayev is engaged in “fierce negotiations” with Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev over the redistribution of “assets, mining and income.”
According to Nazarbayev’s former adviser Yermukhamet Yertysbayev, the ex-president remains in Kazakhstan. According to Yertysbayev, negotiations are ongoing, but “it is clear that the era of Nazarbayev is over.”
Another source of the publication claims that Nazarbayev may be in China. However, Beijing refuted these messages.
“This is absolutely false information. We noticed that the press secretary of the former president of Kazakhstan stated that Nazarbayev is currently in the country’s capital, Nur-Sultan,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, the press service of the former president reported that he was in Nur-Sultan and called on everyone to rally around the head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to overcome challenges and ensure the integrity of the country.
