Russian President Vladimir Putin phoned German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. About it informs press service of the Kremlin. The main topic of the conversation was the conflict in Ukraine.

This is the first conversation between the two leaders since Scholz succeeded Angela Merkel as head of the German government.

“Putin informed in detail about the state of affairs in this area, noting, in particular, that Kiev continues to stubbornly evade fulfilling its obligations under the 2015 Minsk agreements,” the press service said.

Also during the conversation, Putin congratulated Scholz on the beginning of his tenure as Federal Chancellor. According to the Kremlin press service, both politicians expressed “interest in further developing Russian-German ties and maintaining contacts through various channels.”

In addition, the heads of state discussed Russia’s proposals on security in Europe, which exclude the further advance of NATO to the east, as well as the deployment of “strike weapons systems” in neighboring countries.
