Syrian airline Cham Wings announced the suspension of flights to Minsk.
“In view of the critical situation on the Belarusian-Polish border, and since most of the airline’s passengers flying to Minsk are Syrians, and also since it is difficult to determine whether Belarus is their final destination, we immediately suspend flights,” reported airline on Twitter.
On November 12, airlines from Turkey and Iraq announced restrictions on flights to Minsk. Turkish Airlines, in particular, promised to stop transporting citizens of Syria, Iraq and Yemen to Belarus. November 12 about the same decision announced Belarusian state-owned airline Belavia, citing the requirement of the “competent authorities of Turkey”. Later, the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority announced that it prohibits the sale of tickets to Belarus from Turkish airports to citizens of Iraq, Syria and Yemen. The department called this a reaction to attempts by illegal migrants to cross the border between Belarus and the EU countries.
Recently, a significant number of flights from the countries of the Middle East and North Africa have arrived at the Minsk airport. The Belarusian authorities send visitors to the border with Poland, where several thousand migrants have concentrated over the past week. There they are forced to break through the barriers at the border and illegally enter the territory of the European Union. The EU authorities call this migration crisis “hybrid aggression” by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
Migrants in the border zone suffer from the cold, lack of food and water. Polish police reportedthat on November 12, in the forest near Vulka Terekhovskaya, the body of a young citizen of Syria was found. The reasons for his death have not been established.
The Polish Border Service also published a video showing that the Belarusian security forces are making attempts to breach the barriers at the border so that migrants can cross to Polish territory. “At night in the area of Cheremkha, the Belarusian security forces began to destroy the temporary border fence. They tore out the fence posts and tore apart the barbed wire with the help of a service car, ”the Polish border guards said in a statement. It is alleged that the Belarusian security forces blinded their Polish colleagues with laser beams and stroboscopes.
Also, the Belarusian security forces supplied the migrants with cans of tear gas, which was used against law enforcement officers in Poland, the Border Service added.
