Presnensky District Court sentenced Sergei Vasilenko, who was found guilty of setting fire to a Rosgvardia car at a January 31 rally in support of the arrested opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
“Sergei Alekseevich Vasilenko was found guilty of intentionally destroying a Rosguard car by arson. He was sentenced to three years and three months of imprisonment in a general regime colony, ” reported “Interfax” press secretary of the court Lela Kokaya.
A 26-year-old man was charged with Part 2 of Art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (deliberate destruction or damage to property committed from hooligan motives). He was threatened with a five-year prison term.
According to investigators, on January 31, Vasilenko, during an uncoordinated rally in support of Alexei Navalny in the center of Moscow, set fire to the wheel of a Rosguard service car.
Initially, the Moscow administration of the Rosgvardia reported that the car caught fire due to technical problems. The arrest of the arson suspect became known on February 3. Two days later, he was arrested.
