The first deputy chairman of the Yabloko party, Sergei Ivanenko, wrote a letter to the European Parliament in which he asked not to give FBK founder Alexei Navalny the Sakharov Prize. According to him, Navalny has nothing to do with the Sakharov Prize.
The letter was published the publication “That’s so”, the member of “Yabloko” himself confirmed the publication of his authorship. He noted that he wrote personally from himself, and not from the party. Ivanenko draws the attention of the European Parliament to what Navalny said about the ownership of Crimea by Russia.
“Since 2017, he began to declare that“ he does not see a solution to the Crimean problem ”, since“ not a single territorial conflict between the two states has been resolved recently, ”writes Ivanenko. “In his numerous interviews, Navalny, like Putin, has repeatedly said that Russians and Ukrainians are in fact“ one nation, ”knowing that many people in Ukraine regard such statements as offensive.”
Also, the deputy chairman of Yabloko recalls Navalny’s debates with the former Minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic Igor Strelkov (Girkin). In his opinion, the founder of the FBK is a nationalist and “incites primitive social strife.”
“I believe that Navalny is, of course, a political prisoner, but he has nothing to do with the Sakharov Prize. This decision of the European Parliament is a very sad event for the democratic movement in Russia, ”Ivanenko told the newspaper.
Ivanenko declined to comment on The Insider news. I will not say anything to the “insider”! ” – said the deputy chairman of Yabloko.
The Kremlin also reacted negatively to the award of the Sakharov Prize to Navalny. According to the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, the European Parliament does not have sufficient information about the “defendant”.
“We respect this body, of course, – stated Sands. – But no one can force us to show respect for such decisions. We believe that such decisions are made by those people who, let’s say, specifically in this episode, specifically in the story with this person involved, or rather the convict serving a sentence, simply do not have reliable information. “
Alexey Navalny won the Sakharov Prize on October 20. The presentation of the award was commented on by the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli. “Navalny is tirelessly fighting the corruption of Vladimir Putin’s regime. It cost him his freedom and almost his life. Today’s prize is a testament to his immense courage and we reiterate our call for his immediate release. ”
The director of the Sakharov Center, Sergei Lukashevsky, told The Insider that the awarding of this prize to Alexei Navalny is a gesture of solidarity and support, evidence that the world remembers him and closely follows his fate. “I really hope that the award of this prize will be such an additional measure of protection and moral support for him,” Lukashevsky said.
According to MEP Sergei Lagodinsky, “the award of such an important prize is a signal that the Navalny case is not some kind of marginal political issue.” “His figure has now become the embodiment of global hopes for change in the Russian Federation. He personifies, firstly, the fight against corruption, and not only in Russia, it hurts the fate of the world and the fate of Europe, and, secondly, a person who uncompromisingly fights anti-democratic, totalitarian and authoritarian actions and tendencies and is ready to go for it Finally. It is these two components – anti-corruption and pro-democratic – that have played an important role. The awarding of the prize, if someone else does not understand or does not believe it, is also an additional certification, a seal of the fact that Navalny is already a European, if not global, person, “Lagodinsky said in a conversation with The Insider.
