In Pakistan, four border guards were killed in an explosion at a checkpoint in Baluchistan province. 19 people were injured, informs Geo.tv. Among the injured are two civilians, three are in critical condition, clarifies NDTV.
The attack occurred on the morning of September 5 at a checkpoint in Mastung District, guarded by the Pakistan Frontier Corps. A suicide bomber riding a motorcycle crashed into a border guard’s car at a checkpoint, followed by an explosion.
The Tehreek-e Taliban (Pakistani Taliban) group claimed responsibility for the explosion. The group said the attack targeted Pakistan Frontier Corps personnel.
The resource-rich province of Baluchistan, bordering Afghanistan and Iran, suffers from sectarian violence, attacks by Islamist militants and separatist activities. Thousands of local residents have died in these conflicts since 2004.
Attacks by the Tehreek-e Taliban have increased in the province in recent weeks. On 26 August, three members of the Levi paramilitary unit were killed when their vehicle was blown up by a mine in Ziarat County.
