Tesla Founder and CEO Elon Musk, speaking at Tesla AI Day in California, reportedthat the company has begun development of a humanoid robot Tesla Bot, a prototype of which may appear as early as 2022.
“Basically, if you think about what we’re doing with cars now, Tesla is possibly the world’s largest robotics company because our cars are like semi-intelligent robots on wheels,” Musk said.
The Tesla Bot will be based on an autonomous Dojo computer and neural networks that can recognize and navigate the world. The robot will be 172 centimeters high and weigh 57 kilograms. Instead of a face, Tesla Bot will have a screen with useful information.
According to Musk, the robot will do routine work for people. For example, Tesla Bot will be able to shop for groceries. Android will be able to move at a speed of 8 km / h using the same mechanisms that are used for self-driving Tesla electric vehicles.
