US Blocks Taliban Access to Afghan Government Accounts in American Banks

[ad_1]

The United States has blocked access for the Taliban to the Afghan government’s accounts in American banks. About it informs Interfax.

“Any central bank assets that the Afghan government has in the United States will not be made available to the Taliban,” the agency quoted presidential administration spokesman Joe Biden as saying.

In addition, the United States is working to close the Taliban’s access to nearly $ 500 million in IMF reserves.

After the Taliban seized a number of provincial centers in Afghanistan, the US Treasury made an urgent decision to stop the supply of cash dollars to the country in order to prevent money from falling into the hands of the Taliban.

According to the head of the Central Bank of Afghanistan, Ajmal Ahmadi, who fled the country, the reserves of the Afghan central bank are about $ 9 billion, but almost all of them are located outside the country.

“With the adoption of measures by the United States to block access to these reserves, the Taliban have access to about 0.1% of their volume,” the agency quoted Ahmadi as saying.

Let us remind you that last Sunday the Taliban took Kabul, and the whole of Afghanistan was under the rule of terrorists. President Ashraf Ghani and many other Afghan government officials fled the country. The terrorists announced the creation of their own government and Sharia courts. At the same time, the Islamist movement announced an amnesty for officials and invited them to return to work. Arkady Dubnov considersthat it is senseless to blame the United States for the withdrawal of troops, and the Taliban, although now they simply say what they want to hear from it, can fulfill many promises.
