The Investigative Committee opened a case on the pollution of the Black Sea water area due to an oil spill. The investigation was transferred from the police to the Western Interregional Transport Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia. About it it says on the ICR website.

The oil spill occurred on August 7 while injecting oil onto the Greek oil tanker Minerva Symphony. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which carried out the loading, said that the oil that got into the water spread over an area of 200 square meters, the volume – “about 12 cubic meters.”

But he ended up 400 thousand times larger than the press service of the consortium where the leak occurred. About it testifies satellite imagery of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

This year, oil spills have repeatedly occurred in the Krasnodar Territory in the Tuapse region. Local residents complained about the acrid smell of oil in the area of the wild beach, and there they also found a black oily spot. Oil slick was also seen in the port waters. Earlier, in the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea, 150 km from Feodosia, a trace of a ship’s discharge of oil products was found.

Spills of oil and oil products in Russia are quite frequent. According to The Insider’s calculations, large-scale emissions of harmful substances into Russian rivers and seas occur on average once a month.
