Sergei Yegorov, head of the St. George Defense League Orthodox Foundation, has been released from custody in the case of an attempted double murder. The Krasnogvardeisky District Court found him not guilty, the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg reported on Monday. “Egorov was acquitted in accordance with the jury’s verdict, since the event of the crime has not been established. He is recognized as having the right to rehabilitation “, – clarifies press service.

According to the prosecution, on the morning of January 31, 2018, the head of the St. George Defense League Orthodox Foundation with a pistol and a knife tried to kill two girls who worked for him in the Ladoga business center on Stakhanovtsev Street. The motive was that they allegedly performed poorly, writes Fontanka.

According to the indictment, in the office of the business center, the attacker fired from a traumatic pistol “Guard” in the woman’s head, but missed, and the victim managed to escape. Then the shooter went to the adjacent room, where he stabbed another woman on the head with a knife. After that, the victim hid under the table.

Three months before the conflict with the girls, on October 23, 2017, Yegorov in the village of Sosnovo fired a KIA Sportage car with a 12-gauge hunting rifle for no apparent reason. For this episode, the Orthodox activist was found guilty and sentenced to 2 years 4 months in prison. The term of punishment has been swallowed up by the time spent in the pre-trial detention center.

In favor of the owner of the car fired by Yegorov in Sosnovo, 122 thousand rubles were collected from the defendant. When sentencing, the court took into account the measures taken by Yegorov for voluntary compensation for damage, as well as the donation sent to the Nochlezhka charitable organization.

Sergei Egorov led the struggle for the transfer of St. Isaac’s Cathedral to the church. He attributed the criminal prosecution to political motives.
