French Competition Authority (FCA) reported, which fined Google € 500 million “for failing to comply with several court orders issued in April 2020.”
According to the FCA, Google has not negotiated with press publishers to enforce related rights and to reward editors for using their content.
Previously, the regulator has already applied similar sanctions against Google. In June, the French antitrust authority fined the company € 220 million, suspecting Google of abusing its dominant position in the advertising market placed on Internet sites and mobile applications.
As the regulator reported, Google, to the detriment of its competitors, granted privileges to its Google Ad Manager service, as well as the DFP ad server integrated into it and the SSP AdX platform, through which auctions for the sale of ad spaces are held.
The print market was hit hard by this move, as newspaper revenues declined due to declining paper subscriptions and the ability to publish advertisements.
In 2019, the French National Commission for Information Technology and Human Rights (CNIL) fined Google € 50 million for not having a transparent mechanism for using personal data.
In April 2021, the FAS filed a case against Google for “abuse of YouTube’s dominant position in the market.”
