The Kazakh authorities agreed to reduce the price of gas in the Mangistau region to 50 tenge per liter amid protests that erupted in the region. About this decision it says on the official website of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
The government commission reportedly met with activists gathered at Yntymak Square in the city of Aktau. During the meeting, the authorities not only announced a reduction in the cost of liquefied gas and set a price of 50 tenge per liter in the Mangistau region, but also gave guarantees that the protesters would not be held accountable.
“The parties also agreed to resolve all emerging issues in the mainstream of a constructive dialogue and within the framework of the current legislation,” the message says.
At the same time, the protesters do not plan to disperse and demand that the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, come to them.
Mass rallies began on January 2 in Zhanaozen, whose residents in protest blocked traffic in the central part of the city. Later, the Zhanaozen people were supported in many other settlements. Thus, hundreds of Aktau residents gathered in the city square and did not leave it even after nightfall, while employees of the Kalamkas and Karazhanbas oil and gas fields refused to work.
