A court in Minsk sentenced Olga Zolotar, a mother of five children, to four years in prison, who had previously been recognized as a political prisoner. About it informs Nexta.
Zolotar was found guilty of running an extremist group, as well as organizing, financing and participating in protests. Prosecutor Zhanna Baranova requested five years of imprisonment for her under the general regime.
Earlier, Zolotar made her final speech in court.
“I am here because I am not indifferent person, I am here because I live according to God’s covenant. I am here because I am a mom who wants to protect her children. As a mother and a Catholic, I hold a position of human dignity and spiritual values. All my actions and statements are with love for people and with hatred for lies and violence.
We are all children of God. Everyone has the potential to make this world like the Kingdom of God, where love reigns. In the Kingdom of God there is no hatred, envy, lies, revenge and fear.
My heart is torn to pieces, because the degree of hatred grows, the amount of pain and resentment increases. Necessary Repentance and Mutual Forgiveness. This is the only way to stop the socio-political crisis in the country.
In the materials of the case, a meaning was given to my actions, which I did not expect. Normal human actions, reactions and feelings are criminalized. The case file contains a photo of a poster that reads “Peace. Love. Freedom”. And I subscribe to every word. I want peace for my home country.
I want love for God and people to reign in my country. I would like to end with the words of Vladimir Korotkevich: “God is alive in Belarus.” Long live God! Long live forever “, – said Zolotar in court.
Zolotar has five children. At the time of the arrest, the eldest daughter was 17 years old, and the youngest son was four years old. The human rights center Viasna recognized her as a political prisoner.
