The Arbitration Court of the Khabarovsk Territory ordered the Eastern Military District to pay 205.8 million rubles to the budget of the Olovyannikovsky District of Transbaikalia for damaging the fertile soil layer during the Vostok 2018 exercise. Then 23 hectares of agricultural land suffered, informs press service of the regional administration of the Rosselkhoznadzor.
Back in September 2018, the head of the peasant farm appealed to the Rosselkhoznadzor administration for the Trans-Baikal Territory with a complaint that the military removed a fertile layer of soil on a rented plot of land when placing military equipment during exercises. As a result, the command of the district was brought to administrative responsibility under Part 1 of Art. 8.6 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (unauthorized removal or movement of the fertile soil layer) and fined 30 thousand rubles. The military tried to appeal this decision in court.
Having failed to obtain payment of the fine, the Rosselkhoznadzor department filed a lawsuit in April 2021, demanding 223.2 million rubles. The claim was partially satisfied.
The Vostok 2018 exercise was held in September 2018 in the regions of the Far East. The media called them the largest in the history of the Russian army. According to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the army has not carried out such large-scale maneuvers since 1981. In addition to the Russian army, military personnel from China and Mongolia took part in the exercises. In total, about 300 thousand Russian servicemen, more than 1 thousand aircraft, helicopters and drones, up to 36 thousand units of armored vehicles and other vehicles were involved in the maneuvers. The exercise was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the end of the maneuvers, he awarded 10 distinguished servicemen from the Russian Federation, China and Mongolia at the Tsugol training ground.
