47 Academicians and Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences signed an open letter in support of the Belarusian political prisoner – student Artem Boyarsky. About it writes Under.

In Belarus, Boyarsky is accused of creating an extremist community – a Telegram channel and a chat of students, in which they agreed to go to rallies.

“Since March 2021, Artem Boyarsky,” scientists write, “has been in a pre-trial detention center. Textbooks are not handed over to him, letters are not delivered, and the necessary medical assistance is not provided. Of particular concern are reports that Artyom Boyarsky was beaten in custody. Young scientists are the future of science and the future of the state. We call on the prosecutor’s office and the court to conduct a fair and impartial case. We ask the court to release Artyom Boyarsky from custody, ”the academicians said in a letter.

For the first time, Artyom Boyarsky was detained on November 16 last year in Minsk after a march of elderly people and arrested for 15 days. In March of this year, the student was again detained – in the morning the security forces came to the dormitory of the Belarusian State University, from where he was later expelled. Artyom was sentenced to 25 days of administrative arrest. He was supposed to be released on April 18, but it became known that Artyom Boyarsky was detained under Art. 361-1 of the Criminal Code (Creation of an extremist formation).

During interrogation, Boyarsky told the lawyer that he was beaten with truncheons on his back and buttocks, forcing him to confess that he was the administrator of the Telegram channel and chat recognized as extremist. This video was published in one of the pro-government Telegram channels.

Later Boyarsky was charged with another article about actions that grossly violate public order.

Artem Boyarsky was the winner of the Olympiads in chemistry, four times became a scholar of the special President’s Fund to support talented youth, gifted students and students.
