Former Moscow City Duma candidate Valeria Kasamara resigned as vice-rector of the Higher School of Economics. About it reported on the university website.
Kasamara has held this position since 2018. She remains director of the Institute for Applied Policy Research.
Kasamara was a candidate for the Moscow City Duma in 2019 and ran in the same constituency as opposition politician Ilya Yashin, who was denied registration as a candidate. Kasamara was registered for the elections, but she lost to the candidate from Fair Russia, Magomet Yandiev, who was supported by Smart Voting.
This summer were published wiretapping of telephone conversations in which Kasamara discusses personal life, career and politics with a fortune teller. In particular, the fortune-teller advised her to “start purging at the university.”
