The assassination of British MP David Amess is a terrorist attack. The corresponding message was posted on Twitter by the London police.
The investigation of the tragedy will be conducted by the counter-terrorism unit of the London police.
Amess, 69, a member of the ruling Conservative Party with nearly 40 years of experience, was killed while meeting with voters. The perpetrator stabbed him several times. The parliamentarian died of his wounds.
According to British media, the killer is a 25-year-old native of Somalia. Investigators do not confirm this information.
In 2016, Labor MP Joe Cox was killed in similar circumstances.
