In fact, there were quite definite reasons for the removal of the German-language RT channels, and these are not “abstract violations of internal rules” at all.
21 september channel received a warning from the YouTube administration about uploaded inappropriate material that violates the rules on false medical information about COVID-19. For this violation, the channel was deprived of the rights to publish new materials for a week. He tried to circumvent the ban by using a backup channel, which the administration considered a flagrant violation of the rules.
Reporters for the Tagesshau news program of the German public television network ARD Patrick Gensing and Sylvia Stoeber explainedwhat happened:
“During the pandemic, RT DE conveyed crude theories about the pandemic. Is there a “second wave” at all? This question was asked by the Russian state broadcaster on its website in early December. Such content from RT DE, as shown by data analysis, is very often distributed among coronavirus deniers and “alternative thinkers”. Obviously, broadcaster RT Deutsch specifically wants to spread uncertainty. <…>
While Russian state broadcasters abroad are apparently deliberately trying to sow doubts about vaccination – for example, they talked about what allegedly happened in Norway [в январе 2021 года] mass death of vaccinated – the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V” is presented as safe. “
As reported in January by Patrick Gensing, RT circulated false information that the vaccination of the elderly has been suspended in Norway, and also published an article by a former GDR spy about the “vaccination slaughter”. And in December 2020, the same Gensing wrote that the channel provided broadcast to former Pfizer employee Mike Eadon, who denied the second wave of the pandemic, argued that in the summer of 2020 the pandemic was over, the population was already immune, and vaccination was harmful. The YouTube channel RT then even broadcast the meetings of the so-called “Corona Committee”, where they said that the activity of the coronavirus in Germany had practically ceased, in terms of the danger to life it was comparable to the flu, and the existence of postcoid complications had not been proven. RT called the committee’s activities a “revolutionary event.”
У YouTube there is on this score, certain rules are not “abstract”, as the Foreign Ministry puts it, but quite specific:
“YouTube does not permit the posting of COVID-19 content that poses a serious risk of serious harm.
YouTube has banned content that disseminates medical misinformation that contradicts the medical information from local health authorities or the World Health Organization (WHO) about COVID-19. This is limited to content that conflicts with WHO or local health authorities’ guidelines for:
– leaving;
– prevention;
– diagnostics;
– transmission of infection;
– recommendations for social distancing and self-isolation;
– the existence of COVID-19.
We may terminate your channel or account for repeated violations of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. We may also terminate your channel or account after a single incident of serious abuse or when the channel is intended to violate YouTube policies. ”
RT DE and spare channel actions The missing part quite fit these definitions.
