The court rejected the complaint of Kara-Murza about the inaction of the RF IC in the investigation of attempts on his life

The Khamovnichesky District Court of the capital on September 17 refused to satisfy the complaint of the politician and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza against the Investigative Committee of Russia. The complaint referred to the inaction of the department in the investigation of two attempts on the life of Vladimir Kara-Murza.

His lawyer, Vadim Prokhorov, told The Insider that the investigators did not even check their complaints and parliamentary inquiries. Kara-Murza asked the UK to check the facts from investigations The Insider and Bellingcat say that FSB officers were involved in his poisoning, who, as in the case of the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, used the Novichok chemical warfare agent.

The refusal of the Investigative Committee to investigate “the actions of the FSB officers organizing the poisoning of opposition politicians” is “the inaction of the investigative body that could harm constitutional rights”, considers Vladimir Kara-Murza. “In this case, we are talking about the most important constitutional right – the right to life,” he stressed.

Even before a decision was made on his complaint, the politician promised that if the Khamovnichesky court refused to satisfy it, he would “go to Strasbourg and insist on international proceedings against the FSB death squads.”

As the lawyer explained, back in 2015 and 2017, he and Vladimir Kara-Murza filed an application with the RF IC about poisoning. The investigation was carried out by the investigative department for the Khamovniki district, but the injured party was not provided with a single order refusing to initiate a criminal case.

On February 18, 2021, a lawyer and a journalist filed an application addressed to the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin. The document listed the names of the alleged FSB officers Roman Mezentsev, Alexander Samofal, Konstantin Kudryavtsev and Valery Sukharev. Their injured party suspects of involvement in the poisoning. Some of these people also appeared in the investigation into the poisoning of Navalny.

Deputies, including Lev Shlosberg, also filed several applications with the demand to investigate the assassination attempt on Kara-Murza.

The first answer came only at the end of April. It contained a refusal to initiate a criminal case. For its part, the Khamovniki District Investigation Department informed Kara-Murza that his application had not been received there.

On September 17, during the court session, it turned out that the RF IC was associated with the refusal to open a case with an inspection, which was allegedly carried out earlier by the investigative department in the Khamovniki district, the results of which are not known.

Lawyer Vadim Prokhorov is confident that such a check could not have been carried out, since the investigation by The Insider and Bellingcat was carried out at the very beginning of 2021. It contained new information about the assassination attempts, which formed the basis for the appeals of Vladimir Kara-Murza and the deputies.
