The United States will use its strategic oil reserve to combat the rise in fuel prices in the country caused by Hurricane Ida. About it stated US President Joe Biden.
Biden gave the relevant instructions to the Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.
“I told Energy Secretary Granholm to use everything at her disposal, including the strategic oil reserve, to keep gasoline going through the pipelines,” Biden said.
According to the president, the use of the strategic reserve will increase access to fuel and combat price increases.
The Biden administration is now seeking to assess the damage done by the Ida as quickly as possible, including in areas where oil is actively being extracted.
Category 4 hurricane “Ida” struck the state of Louisiana in the south of the country last Sunday morning. At least eight people have died in the US states of New York and New Jersey as a result of hurricane-triggered floods.
Earlier it became known that at least nine oil refineries in the US state of Louisiana suspended or reduced activities due to Hurricane Ida. At the same time, the US Department of Energy said that the suspension in the work of the plants should not lead to problems with supplies, since the stocks of gasoline and distillates on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico now slightly exceed the seasonal average.
