Director of Russian-language school dies in Turkmenistan after infecting children with COVID-19 during exam

[ad_1]

On September 1, the director of the joint Russian-Turkmen secondary school named after A.S. Pushkin, Elena Sistsova, died in Turkmenistan. informs Embassy of the Russian Federation in this country. Currently, there is a sharp surge in the incidence of COVID-19 in Turkmenistan. In the educational institution, which was headed by Elena Sistsova, about 20 teachers are ill, they say sources Turkmen.news. In addition, two dozen children fell ill after being in contact with Elena Systsova, who already had symptoms of the disease.

The educational institution confirmed the death of the director, but could not name the exact reason.

One of the sources from Turkmen.news said that the principal showed signs of illness, including a severe cough, during testing when children were admitted to school. However, the teacher was sitting without a mask. In the following days, about 20 children who attended the entrance exam developed a fever and began vomiting.

Elena Sistsova, 51, has served as director of the last remaining fully Russian-language school in Turkmenistan since 2016. She is also the author of the Russian language textbook for the 5th grade of Turkmen national schools.

The Turkmen authorities still do not recognize the spread of the coronavirus in the country, but in recent days they have been forced to take sanitary measures under various pretexts. So, on September 1, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan sent SMS messages to residents of Ashgabat warning about the increased content of particles of “dust from the Aral Sea” in the air. In this regard, citizens are advised to wear medical masks, maintain a safe distance from each other – 2 meters, and also keep their hands clean.

Sanitary restrictions have actually stopped the entire educational process. On August 29, the Extraordinary Commission for Combating the Spread of Disease ordered until October 1 to transfer all students and pupils of grades 7-11 to distance learning.

At the same time, in fact, such training cannot be organized in the absence of wide access to the Internet for the citizens of Turkmenistan. As of autumn 2020, 26% of citizens of Turkmenistan used the Internet. The world average is 59%. Full-fledged remote study also requires a computer, which in Turkmenistan is actually a luxury item.

Schoolchildren in Turkmenistan were simply told about the extension of the vacation. A number of sources report that students in grades 1-6 will only study for one week, and then go on vacation.

The official media do not inform about the special study regime. This was not reported in the address of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to schoolchildren and students.

In 2020, at the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic, President Berdymukhamedov advised, as a preventive measure against infection, to fumigate the premises with a herbaceous harmala plant (burial ground) and eat the national noodles with unash pepper. writes “Chronicle of Turkmenistan”. On the advice of the president, meeting rooms for officials were fumigated, as well as school classes, reported “Present time”.
