McDonald’s filed an application for registration of the trademark on August 19. The press service of the branch of the company in Russia said that the application was filed “in accordance with the plans to protect the brand.”
Prior to that, in June, the company patented the McDonald’s trademark on a black background and the McDonald’s trademark on a striped brown background. Other patented McDonald’s trademarks in Russia include Big Mac, McFlurry, McCafe and the University of Hamburgerology (the company’s educational center).
In March in the Perm Territory FAS aroused the case against the Wurma chain over the use of a McDonald’s trademark. The chain used in its designations an inverted “M” with rounded tops, similar to the McDonald’s trademark, the department said. The McDonald’s chain in Russia has been operating since 1990 and includes 517 outlets.
