The Verkh-Isetsky court of Yekaterinburg sentenced two local residents – Alexei Konkov and Kirill Kudrin – to real prison terms in the case of a grenade thrown at the riot police during a rally in support of Alexei Navalny. The court appointed Konkov 10 months, Kudrin – 8 months of imprisonment with a serving time in a colony-settlement. Both were found guilty of using violence against security officials (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code). Initially, young people were accused of hooliganism – participation in mass riots (part 2 of article 213 of the Criminal Code), but the court dropped this charge.

According to investigators, on the day of the rally, January 23, Konkov handed a pyrotechnic grenade to his friend Kudrin, and left a smoke bomb with him. Directly at the rally, young people “out of hooligan motives, disregarding respect for society” threw a grenade and a saber at the riot police in the park near the Drama Theater. After that, they went home by taxi, they said in the UK.
