State Duma Deputy Natalya Poklonskaya (United Russia) will become Russia’s ambassador to the Republic of Cape Verde, located on the Cape Verde Islands in West Africa, transfers RBC, citing sources in the lower house.

According to the newspaper, in the near future the international committee of the State Duma may consider the approval of Poklonskaya’s candidacy for this post, the documents for this are already ready. The deputy herself did not comment on this.

The presidential administration, the United Russia party and the Crimean leadership did not want to see Poklonskaya in the new convocation of the State Duma because of her “not quite systemic behavior and extravagant statements,” interlocutors in parliament and the Kremlin noted.

Two sources close to the AP said that they had already discussed her employment with Poklonskaya. Working in a diplomatic environment was the wish of the parliamentarian himself, they specified.

At the end of May, Poklonskaya starred from the primaries of “United Russia” (preliminary voting) in the elections to the State Duma. The deputy explained her decision by the transition “to a new job.” She did not give details then, but noted that she would have to “wear a jacket” again. For the first time about the lack of proposals to run for the State Duma again Poklonskaya told in March.

She became a deputy from United Russia in 2016, having received in the elections, the mandate of Sergei Aksyonov (now the head of Crimea). Prior to that, Poklonskaya worked as a prosecutor of Crimea, and gained fame thanks to her active pro-Russian position during the 2014 referendum, when the peninsula became part of Russia during the annexation.

In 2018, Poklonskaya was the only member of United Russia, voted against raising the retirement age. The head of the faction, Sergei Neverov, said that the deputy had violated discipline. Poklonskaya answeredthat he “works according to his conscience” and will not hand over his mandate. After that, in the State Duma abolished the income control commission, which she chaired.
