Airport shelling begins in Kabul, US embassy reports

[ad_1]

On Sunday morning, the warring parties in Afghanistan showed restraint and readiness to negotiate, but by evening the situation in Kabul escalated. American Embassy reported about the shelling of the airport, where there is a rapid evacuation of foreigners.

Taliban militants said there would be no transitional government in Afghanistan. Taliban intend to take full power into their own hands, informs Reuters citing two Taliban officials.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Taliban movement Zabihullah Mujahid said that some areas of Kabul are already under the control of the Taliban. The Taliban explain their actions by the desire to prevent chaos and rampant crime on the city streets. “There is a risk of theft and robbery,” Mujahid wrote on Twitter.

He recalled that in the morning the Taliban prohibited their fighters from entering the city. “But now there are reports that in some areas in Kabul, police have abandoned their security jobs, ministries have been evacuated and security personnel from the Kabul administration have fled,” he added.

For his part, Afghan Interior Minister Abdul Satar Mirzakwal announced on Sunday that a curfew would be in force in Kabul to prevent chaos and save the lives of Kabul’s citizens, Khaama Press reported. The curfew will be in effect from 21:00, it applies to all areas of the city. The minister also asked residents to remain calm and to comply with the orders of the authorities, transfers Interfax.
