Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu instructed to include Vladimir Putin’s article “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians” in the mandatory topics for military-political training sessions with servicemen. About it writes RBK, citing a source in the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
As the source explains, this was done “due to the large number of servicemen in the Russian army and navy who have Ukrainian roots, parents or relatives in Ukraine, the president’s article caused a great positive response and discussion in the military environment.”
Putin’s article, written in both Russian and Ukrainian, was published on the Kremlin’s website on July 12. In it, the president once again stated that Russians and Ukrainians are one people, and that Ukraine is “under external control.” Putin noted that modern Ukraine “was largely created at the expense of historical Russia.”
Mikhail Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine on Special Issues, and Ukrainian political scientists Oleksiy Kovzhun and Konstantin Batozkiy in an interview with The Insider named Putin’s article by distorting history and manipulating facts, as well as unwillingness to understand Ukraine.
