Today was the fourth day of the trial of Navalny. And today Russia invaded Ukraine and started a full-scale war there.
The decision to launch a military invasion was taken by Putin long ago, and then it was carefully planned. Now there is no doubt that the trial of Navalny was scheduled for the same time for a reason. Putin wants to pass judgment in silence. It is beneficial for him that attention is not riveted to the court.
Navalny is in prison in complete isolation and is even tried in a penal colony. He has no other opportunity to speak than this court itself. So listen to what Alexei said today and help spread his words.
The trial then proceeded as usual. First, another witness for the prosecution was interrogated there – a teacher in a monastery from the Moscow region, Lyudmila Laktyushina. She stated that she knew from the Internet that Navalny insulted the judge and “compared the court to a fascist dictatorship or something like that.” Laktyushin was terribly hurt by this. She said that in this way Navalny discredited the judiciary in front of a huge amount of media.
Apparently, the fact that she herself gives these testimonies in prison did not seem to her to discredit the judiciary.
Then came the turn of the victims. The first to testify was Alexander Koshelev, a handyman from Ramenok, who transferred 1 million 20 thousand rubles to the FBK. Cash. Through the savings bank. With his monthly salary of 40 thousand.
A week after this transfer, Koshelev considered himself deceived and wrote a statement to the UK.
At previous hearings, witnesses for the prosecution did not testify on the merits of the case, but simply scolded Navalny. But now even the victim could not say anything on the merits. He could not remember any details about how he made the transfer, where he got such an amount from, where he even found the account, where to transfer it – this account has never been published by us. Instead, Koshelev spoke about the rallies. He stated that his daughter went to rallies, where she was detained and now she is drinking antidepressants. And Navalny is to blame for this.
To the remark that it was not Navalny who detained the daughter of the victim, he remained deaf and continued to assure that Alexei had deceived his family.
True, it turned out that Koshelev’s memories of the family were shrouded in fog. For example, he does not remember exactly how many children he has. During the preliminary investigation, he claimed that there were two, and at the trial – that there were three. But this is not so bad – after two hours of interrogation, Koshelev suddenly announced that his son, and not his daughter, went to the rally.
When Koshelev was asked to explain the contradictions in his testimony, he rubbed his face, sighed tiredly and plaintively repeated: “I came, wrote a statement, the rest does not concern me.”
Obviously, he really “came and wrote a statement.” In 2013, Koshelev was arrested on charges of drug possession – amphetamine. By ordinary standards, the punishment was quite small – one year. Apparently, from that moment on, Koshelev began to cooperate with the police, who now forced him to act as a victim in the criminal case against Navalny.
After Koshelev, Andrei Mishchenkov was interrogated in court. This is our former employee who worked at FBK until 2015. And despite the fact that he was also called to court as a witness for the prosecution, he stated that the activities of the Foundation have always been completely legal.
After the interrogation of Mishchenkov, the court began to read out the materials of the case again. The prosecutor’s office said that this was the end of providing their evidence. This means that ahead is the evidence of the defense, and then the verdict. It might be as early as next week.
Let’s summarize. 4 sessions. 1 victim is a plumber with a donation of over a million rubles, who does not know how and why he did it. 5 witnesses for the prosecution. Two of them are corrupt bloggers who have nothing to do with this criminal case. Two more are former FBK employees who said that Navalny never engaged in illegal activities. And the last one is a woman who worries about the offended judge.
This is the best that the Investigative Committee could find for this court. True, now it is clear why it takes place in such an environment? They have absolutely nothing to show. They could not find a single real fact and not a single real person to somehow support their accusations. And knowing this well in advance, they tried their best to hide this process.
Now the attention of the whole world is focused on Ukraine. What is happening is monstrous and unthinkable. This needs to be talked about as much as possible.
But right now, Alexei Navalny, a man who stands for a peaceful, prosperous Russia, is on trial in prison. Who for many years has been fighting the main Russian evil – Vladimir Putin. And he is ready to give in this struggle not only his freedom, but also his life.
As long as there are people who resist this evil, it has not won. And we must resist with all our might and in no case be silent.
We will continue to tell you about what is happening in this judgment. We will continue to talk about what is happening in Ukraine – subscribe to our new channel “Popular Politics”. We will continue to do investigations. And we ask you to spread it.
Freedom for Alexei Navalny.
