“My editor-in-chief and my fairly high-ranking sources insist on this, who say that now the threat to my personal safety is high, so I will listen to them, although I really don’t like it,” Milashina said, adding that this has not happened before. once, and she will continue her work.

The journalist takes threats from the Chechen leadership seriously, because, according to her, State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov is a very dangerous person and perhaps even more dangerous than Ramzan Kadyrov.

On February 2, at a “spontaneous” rally in Grozny against the family of the former judge of the Supreme Court of Chechnya, Saydi Yangulbaev, the chairman of the Public Chamber of Chechnya, Ismail Denilkhanov, also asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to close down Novaya Gazeta, the Dozhd TV channel, and the Committee Against Torture.

“The peoples of the Chechen Republic urgently demand the immediate cessation of the activities of such enemy media as Novaya Gazeta, Dozhd, as well as the Committee against Torture. Arrest and bring to justice such agents of Western intelligence services and instigators as Elena Milashina, Igor Kalyapin and others,” Grozny-inform quoted Denilkhanov as saying.

In this regard, Dozhd called on law enforcement agencies to respond to the “direct threats” that Ramzan Kadyrov addresses to journalists and human rights activists. The channel’s statement read, in part: “The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, called the Dozhd TV channel, as well as Novaya Gazeta, journalist Elena Milashina and human rights activist Igor Kalyapin, “terrorists, accomplices of terrorists.” A week earlier, Kadyrov said: “We have always destroyed terrorists and their accomplices, between whom there is no difference, and we will continue to do so with them.” Therefore, his words cannot be perceived otherwise than as a threat.

On February 2, the editors of Ekho Moskvy made a similar appeal. Earlier, Novaya Gazeta filed an application with the Investigative Committee with a demand to initiate a criminal case against Kadyrov under the article on inciting hatred or enmity.
