Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov tried to withdraw his words about abductions Zarema Musayeva by Chechen security forces. Dialogue with Peskov publishes “Jellyfish”:
Jellyfish: I would like to return to the story of the kidnapping of the Chechen judge’s wife. I think now you are unlikely to say that this is a “fantastic story”, because there are confirmations from various sources.
Dmitry Peskov: What won’t I say? I want to draw your attention to the fact that I have never used such words. I did not say this phrase. Most of the journalists were at the same press call, probably everyone will confirm that I did not talk about “fantastic stories”.
“Jellyfish”: But there are transcripts and audio recordings in many news agencies! We compared and double-checked your words.
Dmitry Peskov: Okay, that doesn’t change the principle.
Recall, January 21 Peskov declaredthat the Kremlin “prefers not to believe” in the story of the kidnapping of Zarema Musayeva: “Well, in general, a fantastic story. We prefer not to believe such reports without any confirmation. We are living in too untrue times.”
On January 20, in Nizhny Novgorod, Chechen police broke into the apartment of Saidi Yangulbaev, a former judge of the Supreme Court of Chechnya. The security forces could not kidnap him himself, since he has a judicial immunity status, but they took away his wife Zarema Musayeva. The pretext for the abduction was that she was allegedly a witness in a fraud case in Grozny, where they were going to take her by force.
During the arrest, Zarema Musayeva lost consciousness, and the Chechen police officers dragged her out of the apartment. She suffers from type 2 diabetes and needs insulin injections 5 times a day. The security forces did not allow Musayeva to take warm clothes, medicines and even her passport with her.
Relatives feared that Musaeva might die on the way to Chechnya.
The police and FSB officers of Nizhny Novgorod did not respond in any way to the requests of Musayeva’s relatives for help and to the allegations of abduction. In the Kremlin declaredwho are not aware of the details of the abduction and prefer not to believe it.
“Committee Against Torture” filed an urgent application to the ECtHR under Rule 39 in connection with the abduction of Musaeva. Rule 39 – “fast legal aid” from the ECtHR. It applies if there is a threat to life or harm to human health, and all national remedies have been exhausted.
Saydi Yangulbaev’s son Ibragim, known for his sharp criticism of the Chechen authorities, in an interview with Dozhd TV channel declaredthat in 2015 he, along with his father and brother, were kidnapped and tortured at the residence of Ramzan Kadyrov, and Kadyrov personally participated in the torture. Later, according to Ibragim, his brother and father were released, and he himself was taken to the Terek SOBR (now the Akhmat SOBR), where they continued to mock, after which they kept him in the basement for six months.
Saydi Yangulbaev and his son Abubakar, who worked as a lawyer in the Committee Against Torture, also spoke about the fact that they were tortured on the orders of Kadyrov. The head of Chechnya accused the Yangulbaevs of involvement in the ADAT Telegram channel, which talks about the crimes committed in Chechnya by the Kadyrovites.
Ramzan Kadyrov named the Yangulbaev family as “accomplices of terrorists” and called on them to detain, and in case of resistance – to “destroy”. Kadyrov also wrote: “Be that as it may, I declare that this family is waiting for a place either in prison or underground. And it doesn’t depend on me anymore.”
Abubakar Yangulbaev asked the Investigative Committee to check Kadyrov’s words because of the threats contained in them. In addition, the human rights activist addressed to Vladimir Putin, urging the president to change the head of Chechnya. “This one (Kadyrov) is all over. This is the edge. The bottom is not just broken, it goes straight. This is no longer tolerable. Change it to a normal intellectual person,” Yangulbaev said.
January 21 Commissioner for Human Rights in Chechnya Mansur Soltaev published 30-second video with Musayeva. “This is pure hell. I have no words. I do not believe that this can happen in Russia. I know my mother, and now on the video she is in a very serious condition and simply no one, ”commented Musaeva’s son Abubakar Yangulbaev on the published footage.
On January 22, it became known that Saydi Yangulbaev and her daughter left Russia because of fear for his life.
