The Kremlin is not aware of the details of the kidnapping of the wife of a federal judge in Nizhny Novgorod and prefers not to believe it, declared Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
Peskov also added that if there were statements to the police, it is already working, and the Chechen security forces cannot have a special status.
On January 20, in Nizhny Novgorod, Chechen security forces broke into the apartment of the parents of Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer from the Committee Against Torture, beat them, and then kidnapped the mother of the human rights activist. Relatives say she fainted while being dragged up the stairs. Abubakar Yangulbaev told The Insider that his mother is in mortal danger due to the fact that she has diabetes and does not have access to insulin.
Before the security forces entered the apartment, Saidi Yangulbaev (the lawyer’s father) called the regional department of the FSB for help, introducing himself as a judge. However, the FSB officer on duty did not believe him, informed “New Newspaper”. However, the officer on duty called the police. The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who arrived on a call, found out the identities of the people who were in the entrance of the Yangulbaevs’ house and said that their leadership should understand what was happening. After that, the police left.
As noted in the “Committee against Torture”, in the decision, which was presented to Yangulbaev by the security forces, it was indicated that the bringing of witnesses was scheduled for January 24. Therefore, the actions of the Chechen police are illegal.
Sergei Babinets, lawyer of the Committee Against Torture, and lawyer Natalya Dobronravova went to the regional prosecutor’s office to demand urgent measures from the prosecutor’s response to the police officers not leaving. The prosecutor on duty was not on site, and no one began to accept their application. The police again arrived at the scene only 3 hours after the call.
During the abduction of Zarema Musaeva, Lyudmila Kukhnina, an employee of the Committee Against Torture, called the police. As a result, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not come to the place of the abduction, but to the applicant herself and took her to the Sormovskiy district police station to give explanations.
