Yandex signed a settlement agreement with companies that in 2020 complained to the Federal Antimonopoly Service about the Internet giant abusing its dominant position in search results. About the conclusion of the world informed Interfax is a source familiar with the details of the agreement.
Avito, Wildberries, Profi.ru, 2GIS and other market players became parties to the agreement.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service does not currently participate in the agreement. As part of the settlement agreement, Yandex will pay 1.5 billion rubles to the non-profit organization Russian Fund for the Development of Information Technologies, an operator of state support for the development and implementation of digital solutions in the Russian Federation. Funds will be paid within 10 business days after the court approves the agreement.
Previously, Avito, Drome, Cian.ru, Ivi, Profi.ru, 2GIS services complained that Yandex, using search results, leads users to their own services, preventing competitors from using the widget. In this regard, competing companies lose traffic and are forced to spend more on promoting their own services.
Yandex objected that the algorithm with the “sorcerer” allows the search engine to successfully compete with other search engines, primarily with Google. “It would be possible to instruct search engines — Yandex, for example — that all results be the same, just links and a title on the page. But the consumer will lose, because such “sterilization” will lead to a deterioration of the product, ” explained RBC Head of Yandex Tigran Khudaverdyan.
Yandex also accused those who filed complaints against it that they themselves discriminated against competitors’ services on their sites.
