Ousted by the military in September 2021 from the presidency of Guinea, Alpha Conde flew on January 17 from the Guinean capital of Conakry to the United Arab Emirates, informed Jeune Africa magazine. According to him, 83-year-old Conde received permission from the military authorities to go abroad for treatment. He is accompanied by two guards and a doctor. At the same time, the politician must return to his homeland in 30 days.

On September 5, the Guinean military announced the seizure of power in the country. They arrested Guinean President Alpha Condé. Later, statements by the military about the closure of borders, the dissolution of the government and parliament, and the suspension of the Constitution followed. The actions of the military were led by the commander of the special forces, Colonel Mamady Dumbaya. On October 1, he was sworn in as President of Guinea for a transitional period.

Condé ruled Guinea for 11 years and in 2020 amended the constitution to “zero” their presidential terms. In 2017, Conde met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at his residence in Novo-Ogaryovo. Then the Russian leader presented the President of Guinea with the Order of Friendship and received the Order of the Grand Cross in return. After negotiations, it was announced that Russia wrote debts of African countries for $20 billion.

After the military coup and arrest, Condé declared that he would never sign the papers of his resignation from the presidency. Last week, the Guinean authorities launched an investigation into possible criminal and financial offenses committed during Condé’s time in office, transmits TASS.
