US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, commenting on the results of negotiations between Russia and the United States on European security issues, declaredthat the United States is ready to protect its allies in the event of Russian aggression and, together, to continue the diplomatic dialogue with Moscow.
Sullivan stressed that US actions will depend on the decisions that Russia will make regarding Ukraine.
“We are ready for any options. We are ready to make progress at the negotiating table. We are ready to take the necessary and appropriate steps to protect our allies, support our partners, and respond harshly to any overt aggression that may occur, ”the adviser to the US president emphasized during a press briefing.
According to Sullivan, the date of the next round of negotiations with Moscow has not yet been determined.
On January 13, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia sees no grounds for holding a new round of negotiations with the United States on security guarantees in the near future. According to Ryabkov, Washington and its allies rejected Russian proposals “on key elements.”
The day before, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted that the Russian delegation reacted positively to the idea of continuing a series of talks, but said it would take time to respond to proposals to schedule further meetings.
