For two months now Roskomnadzor has been trying to figure out whether Russia Today and RIA Novosti violated the law, which, contrary to the law, stopped labeling the Taliban movement as terrorist and banned in Russia. This was reported by the ChTD Telegram channel, which sent a request for verification to the department.

“In connection with your appeal from the official website regarding a possible violation by the media of the requirements of legislation in the field of the media, Roskomnadzor is taking control measures. In case of confirmation of the fact of violation, measures will be taken within the existing competence, “- says the response of Roskomnadzor.

At the same time, other media outlets receive fines rather quickly. On October 22, it was reported that Roskomnadzor had fined the Republic for mentioning the Taliban without marking the movement’s terrorist activities. The founder of the publication explained that the media really forgot to write a footnote, although they put an asterisk. A week earlier, the Ministry of Justice entered the Republic into the register of “foreign agents”.

In addition, Russia Today and its numerous subdivisions, which are part of ANO TV-Novosti, are listed in registry Media receiving foreign funding. At the same time, the Ministry of Justice does not enter them into the register of “foreign agents”. Unlike other non-government media outlets and journalists who end up on the register, for example, for donations from the audience. In particular, the basis for recognizing Mediazon as a foreign agent became google ad revenue… At the same time, earlier the Russian court itself insisted on the payment of similar income to Tsargrad, which belongs to the Orthodox oligarch and sponsor of the war in eastern Ukraine, Konstantin Malofeev.

Recall, November 8 reportedthat the leadership of the state news agency Rossiya Segodnya, whose general director is TV presenter Dmitry Kiselev, and whose editor-in-chief is Margarita Simonyan (who also heads RT), sent out a notification to their media employees that they can no longer label the Taliban movement as terrorist. Instead, when mentioning the Taliban, it is necessary to write a footnote – “The organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities.” Simonyan herself has repeatedly expressed her approval of the Taliban’s activities, and in a column on the RT website, the terrorists were even awarded the “Handsome of the Year” symbolic award.
