Ukrainian Security Service officers have detained an alleged Russian intelligence agent who is suspected of plotting terrorist attacks.
The detained foreigner came to Ukraine on the instructions of Russian intelligence officers operating from the territory of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, report in the SBU. According to the ministry, the agent of the Russian special services was supposed to organize sabotage and terrorist attacks in the Odessa region to “undermine the socio-political situation” and create the impression that anti-Ukrainian sentiments are strong in the region and the “Russian underground” is operating.
According to investigators, the detainee set fire to a military vehicle in Odessa in December and poured paint on the monument to the killed Ukrainians. He also planned attacks on the offices of volunteer and “patriotic socio-political structures”, as well as on military equipment.
The suspect was detained while transferring money to the performer for setting fire to a military vehicle. The criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist attack).
In early December, the FSB reported about the detention of three men who, according to the department, were agents of the SBU and the military intelligence of Ukraine. According to the intelligence service, two of them were supposed to collect information about strategic objects in Russia, and the third was preparing explosions.
