Update: Abubakar Yangulbaev was released from the police department, writes OVD-Info. According to the human rights activist, he was detained as a witness in the case of justifying terrorism, while he was not told who the accused was. During the interrogation, Yangulbaev was asked about his involvement in the Telegram channel, which criticizes the Chechen authorities.

In Pyatigorsk, on the morning of December 28, a search was carried out at the house of Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer of the North Caucasian branch of the “Committee against Torture”. The equipment was withdrawn from him. After the search he was detained, informs human rights organization.

At the moment, Yangulbaev is at the police station in Pyatigorsk at Kislovodskoe shosse, 13. The lawyer is not allowed to see him.

Formerly a lawyer stated on the disappearance of 40 relatives in Chechnya and suggested that they might have been detained in connection with his human rights activities.

“We ask journalists to spread this information. We fear that Abubakar may be taken to Chechnya, where his life is in danger. We do not know the reason for his detention, “the report of the Committee Against Torture says.

“My relatives from Grozny and the village of Goity have also been kidnapped and illegally detained in various police departments in Chechnya,” Yangulbaev wrote earlier on Facebook. – I counted about 40 people from among the abducted. Each of them is my dad, mom, brother and sister. These are the people with whom I grew up, who raised me, with whom I survived the war. To them all I owe to the kind of person I have become. I will defend and fight for everyone. “

“I do not know the reason for the abductions and no demands were made,” the human rights activist said. “I don’t understand why they are being held hostage. Maybe this is because I am a human rights activist and I work in Chechnya. Maybe the Kadyrovites suspect that I am involved in the opposition TG-channel “Adat”. I am a human rights activist and I do not hide it. I am not involved in “Adat” “.

Abubakar Yangulbaev joined the Committee Against Torture at the end of 2014 after learning about the arson of the organization’s office. “Then the thought occurred to me that if human rights defenders did not work in Chechnya, the local authorities would become even more brutal and it would be impossible to restrain them,” the lawyer writes on the organization’s website. – However, I will not hide, I have never seen myself as a human rights activist. I just do not tolerate injustice in any of its manifestations. “

Yangulbaev became the sixth person in just three days to report the abduction of loved ones. On December 22, Chechen blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov announced the disappearance of his relatives. The next day, blogger Minkail Malizayev made a similar statement. He said that his loved ones were kidnapped and tortured. Malizaev himself was sent nude photographs of his mother and wife. Investigator Hristo Grozev discovered that the phone number from which one of the threatening messages was sent belongs to a 28-year-old officer of the Russian special forces SOBR, who reports personally to Kadyrov in Chechnya.

The relatives of the founder of the Vayfond human rights association, which helps Chechen refugees in Europe, Mansur Sadulayev, were also abducted.

On December 24, activist and director of the human rights organization Human Rights Center Ichkeria Aslan Artsuev announced the abduction of relatives by Chechen security forces. According to Artsuev, the security forces came to visit his cousins Khizir Abdulmuslimov and Selim Aslakhanov, uncle Sultan Artsuev and second cousin Musa Artsuev. They were detained on the evening of December 22 in the villages of Qatar-Yurt and Achkhoy-Martan. The activist had previously left Chechnya for Germany. He believes that his relatives were detained because he criticized Ramzan Kadyrov and Vladimir Putin.
