Law enforcement officers of Belarus have detained a citizen of the Russian Federation, who is accused of committing a terrorist act, informs “BelTA” with reference to the head of the KGB department for the Gomel region Alexander Melnikov.
According to counterintelligence officers, a Russian living in Gomel and having a residence permit in Belarus “committed arson on extremist, political reasons of the personal car of the first deputy head of the UDIN in the Gomel region.” UDIN is a department of the Department for the Execution of Punishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the head of the regional department of the KGB Alexander Melnikov, the Russian “also punctured the wheels of 39 trolleybuses in Gomel in order to stop public transport.” Melnikov told about this at a meeting of officials with Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
A criminal case was initiated against a citizen of the Russian Federation under the article “Committing a terrorist attack”. The KGB spokesman noted that “the destructive forces are not abandoning their attempts to destabilize the situation.”
