Blogger Yuri Khovansky, who is under arrest on charges of justifying terrorism, has filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights. About it reported Pavel Chikov, head of the Agora Association.
According to Chikov, Khovansky complains about the illegality of choosing his detention as a measure of restraint, about unregistered detention in the Investigative Committee on the night of June 8-9, 2021 (after a search and before the arrest report), as well as a violation of the requirement for urgent consideration the legality of the guard.
Recall that the reason for initiating a case for justifying terrorism against Khovansky was a song he performed about the terrorist attack on Dubrovka in 2002 with obscene expressions in relation to the child victims of the terrorist attack. Later, he repeatedly apologized for the performance of this song, but the case was still opened. Also, the video blogger was included in the register of Russian individuals involved in terrorism and extremism.
According to the investigation, Khovansky’s song contained “signs of public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism and its propaganda.” The blogger faces from five to seven years in prison with a ban on engaging in certain activities. Previously, he reportedthat the investigation found dummy witnesses who gave false testimony: Khovansky allegedly sang the song for which he is being persecuted in 2018, and not in 2012, when the criminal article on justifying terrorism did not yet exist in the form in which it is imputed to the blogger.
