I understood that I would get out of a Russian prison without health and without teeth, which would not be knocked out to me, but which would fall out on their own. All this time, I will not have the opportunity to materially participate in the life of my children and my family, they will become beggars, and I myself will be an additional burden for all my relatives – material, in the first place.
Restriction of freedom is a regime when you are not immediately imprisoned. But for one violation, you can immediately go to the colony. Realizing that this “violation” will appear very quickly: for example, a policeman will come up and draw up a protocol that I used foul language – the next day I left for Turkey, and from there to Lithuania.
Lithuania is more of an accident. In 2018, I was imprisoned for rallies three times, and in the isolation ward I decided that I would specialize in forest management. You can’t just walk around with a poster “Putin, go away!” I went to Lithuania because there are private forests and people speak Russian. I got acquainted with local human rights activists. They said, “If everything goes really bad, we will help you.”
In total, I spent 77 days in various special detention centers. I had four “trips”, so to speak with such a criminal word. Irkutsk has a very old prison, and under the tsar there was a stable next to it. This stable was converted into a special detention center.
They tried to organize some kind of wrong society all the time. They brought me a man who was an HIV dissident, he was already dying, had spots on his skin that were bleeding. When he entered the cell, he said: “I am HIV-infected. I was told that one dude should understand everything. ”
I carried a tubercle bacillus on myself after the second term. The doctor told me that there was a man in my cell who was coughing badly. I went to the TB dispensary, a reaction was found there, I was prescribed two drugs, I drank them, and everything is fine, I am not sick with tuberculosis.
Homeless people were planted to me. At the same time, the employees themselves apologized, saying: “Because of you, a homeless operation was announced in the city. Forgive us, we do not like it madly either. ” I made these people wash and wash, because it was impossible to be in the cell because of the stench.
I cannot say that it was terrible there, but our Russian special detention centers are absolutely not the place where even citizens who have violated something should be.
I am not the most ordinary navalnist – not only because I am the most adult, but because I have extensive experience in small and large businesses. When I was 30, it seemed to me that the world was ruled by money, and I was actively earning it: I worked in YUKOS and other large companies in director positions. But you realize very quickly that this is not all that is needed in life. I went into small business: in the 2000s it could be done almost anywhere, the government had not yet pressed it, people had a lot of money in their hands, the economy was growing. For a long time in our country there was a feeling that there was no need to fight for freedom: it itself collapsed in 1991, and then high oil prices fell. It’s cool, and there is money, and there is happiness, and no one touches it yet.
And now there is no money either, and it hurts to touch. And not only Alexei Navalny, but a huge number of people who are forced to live in fear or flee the country. Those who have failed to defend themselves are imprisoned. Putin and his accomplices, old fighters, want an atmosphere of fear and horror in society, because they themselves do not understand anything but fear and horror.
I feel sorry for our country, because people are living worse lives than they could have lived without Putin. I believe that Alexei Navalny made the greatest contribution to the struggle and destruction of our Russian authoritarianism, which has now become classic fascism, just like in textbooks. Of course, I would have preferred to pursue a different political career, but we are living the life that we have, and I have nothing to regret.
This era will pass, very many people will then be ashamed of the way they behaved. Life is always cyclical. Putinism will end, and those people who thought they erased us from life, most likely, will themselves be erased from life.
