The court found the father of the ex-director of FBK Ivan Zhdanov, Yuri Zhdanov, guilty of committing fraud and official forgery and gave him a three-year suspended sentence with a two-year probation period. Zhdanov was ordered to be released in the courtroom. About it informs Navalny’s team.
The state prosecution demanded that he be sentenced to three years in a colony.
The court earlier refused to transfer Sr. Zhdanov to house arrest on the grounds that he “is retired, and therefore has the opportunity to freely move around the country.” The lawyer Vladimir Voronin noted that his client is being held in the IVS in torture conditions: the ventilation system is broken, in the cells it is 30 degrees of heat.
Zhdanov, 66, was arrested on March 29 on charges of abuse of office. A criminal case was opened due to the fact that, being a member of the housing commission, he recommended the head of the Seekers settlement to allocate an apartment to a local resident under a social tenancy agreement. Later, the contract was terminated – it turned out that the family had already received a housing subsidy. The administration returned the apartment through court. Ivan Zhdanov noted that a year ago an inspection in this case did not reveal any violations, and the head of the village, by whose order an apartment was allocated, did not become a defendant in the criminal case.
In May, Zhdanov was re-qualified the article on abuse of office (part 1 of article 286 of the Criminal Code) to more serious articles on official forgery (article 292 of the Criminal Code) and fraud on an especially large scale (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code). The investigation believes that Zhdanov issued a recommendation for mercenary purposes. According to Voronin, no evidence of “greed” was provided by the investigation.
Initially, Zhdanov Sr. was placed in SIZO-5 in the Rostov Region, but then transferred to SIZO-1 in the Arkhangelsk Region. There his health condition deteriorated.
In June, the Moscow City Court recognized the Anti-Corruption Foundation, the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights and the headquarters of Alexei Navalny as extremist organizations. Former FBK director Ivan Zhdanov was put on the international wanted list.
