A court in Stavropol arrested the assets of the former head of the traffic police in the region, Alexei Safonov, and his relatives, suspected of corruption. About it informs Kommersant.
The seized property includes more than 20 real estate objects and six cars. As the Prosecutor General’s Office found out, Safonov registered property for his mother, ex-wife, mother-in-law, and also for his mistress. Since 2011, when Safonov headed the regional department of the traffic police, his relatives acquired property worth at least 83 million rubles.
Among the property of Safonov himself is a house with an area of 232 sq. m 15 km from Stavropol. The three-story brick mansion was registered in 2020, its cadastral value is 1.2 million rubles. A house with an area of 133 sq. m on a plot of 895 sq. m, and a Nissan Qashqai is also issued in her name.
Safonov’s ex-wife owns a house with an area of 285 sq. m on a plot of 600 sq. m, Mercedes-Benz GLE 350D and Mercedes-Benz E 220, as well as non-residential premises with an area of 45 sq. m in Stavropol. Her mother owns plots of 496 and 500 sq. m, on which, after the merger, a house with an area of 685 sq. m.
Safonova’s mistress owns part of the Marshal shopping and office center on Tukhachevsky Street and three small non-residential premises, as well as three apartments with an area of 63, 76 and 178 sq. m in Stavropol. She should receive another apartment on December 31 as a participant in the shared construction in St. Petersburg in the elite residential complex Etalon on the Neva. She also owns BMW X7, BMW X6 and Toyota Camry cars. In addition, a house with an area of 449 sq. m on a plot of 812 sq. m in Stavropol. It was this two-story mansion with gilded plumbing that became the focus of attention after Safonov’s arrest.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the family could not buy all these assets with their legal income. Their total amount from 2008 to 2021 was 18 million rubles.
We will remind, the head of the traffic police of the Stavropol Territory Alexei Safonov and seven other people were detained in the corruption case on July 20. During a search in Safonov’s mansion, furniture and appliances with gold trim, including gold toilets, were found. Safonov himself claimed that the house, the photographs of which were published after his arrest, belonged to his wife.
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on accepting a bribe organized by a group on an especially large scale. According to the investigation, the members of the group, headed by Safonov, sold passes to truckers, which allowed them to work in the region “with violations of administrative law.”
