FC Spartak announced the appointment of 49-year-old Italian Paolo Vanoli as head coach. About it reported on the club website.
“The contract with the 49-year-old Italian is calculated until the end of the 2022/23 season with the option of extending for another year,” the club’s press service said in a statement.
The previous coach of Spartak, Portuguese Rui Vitoria, who headed the club since May 24, 2021, left the post of head coach on December 15 by mutual agreement. TV channel “Match TV” reportedthat 51-year-old Vitoria allegedly did not agree with the dismissal and refused to sign papers to terminate the contract. The club denies this.
In place of Vitoria, the media predicted the Italian Paolo Vanoli – and they were right. He has no experience as a head coach in a professional club, but he assisted his famous compatriot Antonio Conte for a long time when he coached the Italian national team, Chelsea and Inter.
As a player, Vanoli played left-back and midfielder positions for various clubs in Italy and for the Scottish Rangers, Interfax recalls.
He achieved the greatest success at Parma and Fiorentina: from the first he won the Cup, the Italian Super Cup and the UEFA Cup, and with a club from Florence he won the Cup of the country.
