Moscow has banned seven British citizens from entering Russia in response to similar restrictive measures that were imposed by London in August this year in connection with the poisoning of Alexei Navalny. About it it says in the commentary of the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, published on the department’s website.
“In response to the unfriendly actions of London and on the basis of the principle of reciprocity, it was decided to impose personal sanctions against a commensurate number of British representatives who are closely involved in anti-Russian activities,” Zakharova noted.
It is still unknown who exactly falls under the Russian sanctions.
In August UK introduced sanctions against seven FSB officers who poisoned Alexei Navalny in August 2020.
So, the sanctions list includes Alexey Alexandrov, Vladimir Panyaev, Ivan Osipov, Vladimir Bogdanov, Stanislav Makshakov and Alexey Sedov.
Recall that the names of Navalny’s poisoners were established during joint investigation The Insider, Bellingcat and CNN featuring Der Spiegel. As it turned out, the poisoning in Tomsk was already the second attempt; two months earlier, the same FSB officers attempted the life of an opposition leader in Kaliningrad and nearly killed Yulia Navalnaya in the process. The key role in the assassination attempt was played by a special unit of the FSB Institute of Criminalistics.
Later The Insider published the confessionary testimony of one of the poisoners, Konstantin Kudryavtsev, who spoke to Alexei Navalny (thinking that he was talking to Patrushev’s assistant) and told many details of the assassination attempt. Among other things, he explained that Navalny’s life was saved by the actions of the pilots and the atropine administered by the ambulance, and also clarified that the poison was applied to the panties, and transport police officers helped to clean up the traces of the FSB. Recall that earlier Vladimir Putin had already de facto validated the results of the investigation by The Insider and Bellingcat, when he did not deny that the FSB officers mentioned in the article were next to Navalny on those very dates.
Navalny lost consciousness on August 20 on board a plane en route from Tomsk to Moscow. The liner made an emergency landing at the Omsk airport. The politician was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Omsk hospital.
On August 22, the oppositionist was taken to the Charite clinic in Berlin. Laboratories in France, Sweden and Germany have determined that he was poisoned with a new type of Novichok-class chemical warfare agent.
